Support Mike Darrah in the Alzheimer’s Breakthrough Ride from Cleveland to Pittsburgh!

From Mike Darrah...

As you may know my grandpa Darrah suffered and died from Alzheimer's. This was tough because he was not only a grandpa but a friend and roommate. For years I wanted to do something with the Alzheimer's Association in his memory, for some crazy reason this seemed like a good fit.

Having worked in non-profit for years, I never liked asking people for money even when I thought it was a worthwhile cause. I still don't like asking but I am going to here!! If you feel you are able please make a donation or at the very least sign the petition. If you know someone else who has felt the effects of Alzheimer's please forward this email so they can sign the petition.

Think of me peddling to Pittsburgh on Sept 13 & 14. There will be a small team of 3-4 of us peddling to take this petition to Washington DC. We will travel 75-85 miles a day by bike (should be fun!!). Thanks for your support!!

Today an estimated 5.3 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's. In addition, 78 million baby boomers are approaching the age of greatest risk for developing this fatal disease. Now is the time to end this epidemic!

This year, to support those affected by Alzheimer's, I'm participating in the Alzheimer's Breakthrough Ride, a journey from coast to capital to raise awareness and funds for the fight against Alzheimer's disease. I'll also be collecting signatures in support of the Alzheimer’s Breakthrough Act, legislation that calls for a significant increase in funding for Alzheimer research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), bringing total funding up to $2 billion.

The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research, and funds I raise will go directly toward supporting their efforts.

I know I can make a difference with your support! Will you consider making a donation? It's easy to give online by following the link below.

Thank you in advance for your time and generosity – together, we can help end Alzheimer's!

Fun at The Flying Monkey~~Tremont Art Walk, July 9th, 2010

Beau, Tracy, Ali and Meg on the back patio at The Flying Monkey.

Friday night a bunch of us got together at the Flying Monkey in Tremont for the Tremont Art Walk.  I (Mary Ann) have a solo exhibit hanging at The Flying Monkey.  So what better reason to get together and have some fun?

I thought Jim looked somewhat like Grandpa Scott in these shades.  By Grandpa Scott I mean Harold Scott.

You can never have enough sunglasses. (The sunglasses were freebies.  Promotional giveaways for a pale ale.)

Me with some of the art.  The show is up for the rest of July and through August 10th.  I'm hoping to make it down to the Taste of Tremont this Sunday (the 18th).  Good food, Good art!

Happy 4th!

Hello!!!  It's July 2nd already...I don't want to rush the summer along, but it seems to be flying by!  Went to the Indians game tonight with the Sedivy's and Brant!  Fireworks after were fantastic...Indians lost...Ali introduced us to Slider!

I've been back from Turkey for a few weeks now...what an amazing trip we had!!  Thank you John & Rose for being such wonderful tour guides and showing us so much!  Turkey is beautiful and the people are so friendly!  And the food was excellent!  Two weeks wasn't quite enough...I'd love to go back!  It's hard to pick pictures out of the 1800 that I took!  But here are just a few!

Istanbul - top picture. Taken from the rooftop terrace at the Hanedan Hotel, with Hagia Sophia in the background.
Selcuk - bottom picture.  Taken from the rooftop terrace at the Homeros Pension...with the Artemis Temple in the background - one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World!!  You can barely see it back there, but it's there!  The rooftop terraces were wonderful - one of my favorite things about Turkey!  In Istanbul we had happy hour every day on our terrace overlooking the Bosphorous!!

Bodrum - top picture. Our hotel is the tallest building - the Otel Gulet! Bodrum looked very Greek to me - very, very close to the Greek Islands!!
Cappadocia -bottom picture. These are some of the amazing Fairy Chimneys!!

The Library at Ephesus...it was incredible here!!

I got home from Turkey on Thursday, June 10 (Mom & Dad's anniversary!) and went to Chautauqua on Saturday for a night.  Then last weekend to New York City for the weekend with Bill.  We went to visit Carola from Germany - she is living in the Bronx for a year, maybe two and her parents were visiting from Germany!  So, now I am staying home - no traveling for awhile!!!  Except to Vermilion for the 4th!!

Lakewood is becoming the place to be!!!  We have 3 new residents!  Justin moved to an apartment on Clifton near Gladys and Beau & Tracy moved to the downstairs of a house on Westlake!  And Ali moved to a new house on Lakeland!  Who's next???!!!

That's it for now...I am considering going back to the actual newsletters!  Seems that may be the way to go...I'm not sure if the blog is working!!  Let me know!
